Snow Day

Snow has always been special to me. When I was little, we made snow forts, snowmen, snowballs, and snow cream (Yes, snow cream!) We’d whisk down an old hill on a sled, inner tube, or cuts of old cardboard. We’d lay in the snow and make snow angels. We’d try to catch a snowflake on our tongue or pick it up in handfuls and eat it. But snow cream was always much better. Snow was special to me. It still is.
Church, I miss seeing you today. But, on this Snow Day Sunday, I want you to take some time to do three things (Three points. Surely you expected that from me on a Sunday).
1. Remember Your God. Look out the window. God is showing off His supreme artistry. His fingerprints are on every snowflake. Each snowflake joined together with other snowflakes creates a majestic landscape, all for His purpose. Likewise, every person, just like a snowflake, is made unique, for His plans, purposes, and promises.
“Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding.” (Psalm 148:7-8)
As you look out the window, take a moment to remember the goodness and majesty of God.
2. Rejoice in the Gospel. What happens when we are forgiven? We are cleansed… white as snow. Everything is covered over with a blanket of God’s grace.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)
For just a moment, think about everything you have done. Everything recently. Everything period. Let the snow remind you that all of it is covered and cleansed, like the snow covering your grass.
3. Rest in His Good Gifts. A snow day feels like a message from God saying: “Slow down. Savor my creation. You don’t have to rush, rush, rush. Watch what I can do to the sky. Look at how I can paint my world.”
“Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
Today, rather than focusing on the inconveniences, stop, be still, and reflect on what God might want to teach you in the snowfall.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above.” (James 1:17). Rest in His good gifts. Including snow.
Enjoy the snow day! And why not have some snow cream?
Pastor Doug
Recipe for Snow Cream:
1. Gather 8 cups of fresh, clean snow in a large bowl.
2. In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of milk, ½ cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and a pinch of salt.
3. Pour the milk mixture over the snow.
4. Stir gently until well combined.
5. Serve immediately.

A great reminder: to slow down and enjoy the beauty of God's grace! And I hope everyone is able to enjoy some "ice" cream!
Great points to pause & think about on this snowy Sunday.
I like to make snow cream everytime God blesses us with snow!
I don’t know about the salt but everything else sounds good. Be safe folks.
